Trigger warnings abound

You never know what might make someone nervous.

Some people are fine with violently bloody scenes, but turn away if a dog steps on something sharp and hurts its paw.

Explicit love scenes are fine for some, but any hint of sexual assault will have them closing their book.

Thrilling chases as police hunt for serial killers work for some, while the day-to-day stress of managing anxiety sends them running the other way.

There are plenty of things that will make readers decide not to buy or to put down your book. You can't worry about all that if your story really needs it.

Write what you have to write, and then take a look to see if everything you've put there is required or has been included for shock. After that, let your marketing make sure your book finds the right audience.
