Someone's watching over

Despite what you might think from watching television or reading fiction, there are millions of kids out there who have very attentive parents paying attention to everything they do. There are plenty of parents out there who are making sure that their kids are all right.

So, when the underaged characters in your stories get into trouble or discover something atrocious or are just plain confused, don't forget that there are adults nearby, available if not active.

Explain why the parents can't help. Give the parents an active role in the action. Have them be part of the problem. Don't ignore their existence!

Adults are not all incompetent and there are surely always some nearby, watching what's happening with the younger portion of your characters, so make sure you give them realistic reasons if they aren't helping out.
