Scare your monsters

There's a lot to learn from Monsters, Inc. The movie has a good story with compelling characters.

But there's something specific to the monsters' way of life that is interesting.

They are scared silly of kids.

The monsters who scare humans are afraid of children.

This isn't that weird when you think about it, because everyone is scared of something. Everyone has something that gets to them. Sometimes, this fear is even the motivation behind actions that scare others.

If you have a monster in your story—either literal or metaphorical—remember that there should be something that scares them too. Just find out what that thing is. It might add a new depth to your story or give you an entirely new story to explore.
