The great prologue debate

There are a lot of opinions about prologues.

Some writers love using them to give a glimpse of future action and get their readers hooked right away. Other writers think it's a cheat for those who aren't able write an interesting opening scene.

You will find arguments on both sides. Some, from people who are very passionate about the subject.

The truth of the matter is, a prologue is only as good as it is written and what follows it.

You want your prologue to work? Make sure you pay it off later in your book and that you are following it with as compelling a first chapter as your prologue is.

Write your prologue if it helps you get your writing moving. Use your edits to make sure that it's a prologue that will support all those pro-prologue folks!
