Some movies use big changes to get their action moving.
Jurassic Park inserted dinosaurs into our current lives. Contagion brings a deadly virus into the world. Plenty of movies have aliens appearing to cause some drama and action.
A change can be a great catalyst for action, but your change doesn't have to be this dramatic.
Grandma can come visit. A lucky charm can appear and give a character confidence they didn’t have before. A puppy can show up and bring out all the tension that a family had gotten so good at hiding.
A big change isn't required to get your characters and plot moving. If you're stuck, find a small change that might make all the difference in your fictional world.
