There are some series that stay in the same time period. Bart Simpson has been the same age for decades, and the girls of the Babysitters' Club are eternally teenagers.
These are choices that their creators have made.
You need to decide if an age freeze is the right decision for you if you're writing series.
Are your characters best at their current age for years and years or do they have a full adventure to tell that needs them to grow and learn like the gang in Harry Potter?
Are there enough adventures at one age to keep them where they are or do they need to grow so that they can have new, more mature adventures every year?
Do they keep the same teachers and friends forever so the same moral compass and comedic relief are available or do they need to grow and find new challenges and personalities in their lives?
Some series stay in one time and some evolve over years. Consider what is best for your characters and stories before choosing which you'll use.
