Start with the small plot

If you want to draw your readers in from your very first words, you have to give them something enticing and poignant to read. You want them on the edge of their seats with curiosity. You want to start with something that keeps them reading on to the next sentence, and the next, and the next.

This does not, however, mean that you have to start with the heart of your story right away.

All stories have a few plots, a few goals, and a number of conflicts.

You don't need to start with the biggest and most important ones. You shouldn't start with the part of the story that needs more background and development to be understood.

Start with one of your smaller plots that will get your readers interested without leaving them confused about what is happening. Leave the really juicy stuff for when your readers will be able to understand what you're talking about and all the related complexities.
