All too often, you see a novel title or read a synopsis, get really excited about what you're expecting to read, and then realize that the words are nothing like what you were expecting. You go in with one idea based on the promotion and find nothing of the kind.
Every now and then you find something even better. Most of the time, however, you're disappointed. When you pick something up because you want that thing, getting something else is annoying.
Don't annoy your readers.
Don't write your synopsis to highlight one extremely exciting feature of your work that only lasts one page. Don't present your writing as a horror when it's really a drama with a few tense or scary scenes included.
Basically, don't just say what you think needs to be said for someone to pick up your work. Find the true selling point of your novel that will not only get people to pick it up, but satisfy the people who picked it up for your unique selling point.
