Make that note now—Help your future edit

There are simple things that you have to check when you're writing a book.

That you don't accidentally change a character's name. That the timeline works. That the temperature doesn't change drastically at the drop of the hat—unless that makes sense for your plot.

The annoying thing is that checking that these things are consistent when doing your last edit can really make it easier for you to miss some easy elements.

Why not help yourself from the very start.

If you have a hard time remembering names, have a running tally of the ones you're using.

If days matter in your story, have a calendar next to you helping you make sure that you aren't date or season skipping.

There are a lot of things that you can fix in your edits. There are a lot that you can get right from the start. Go ahead and do it if you can.
