Said once

There are some details that are important to your story. Some that you really want to make sure stick out in your reader's mind.

Sometimes, repetition is good to get this through.

Most times, however, repetition is just not required.

You don't have to explain three times how two characters got to know each other. You don't need to describe ten times how someone is selfish. You don't have to detail more than once the layout of a town.

There are some details that are worth repeating, but most aren't. Make sure that you find the right details to repeat, and then cut out the ones that don't need it.
