Don't be afraid to be obvious

There are some books where you want to keep readers wondering the whole time. You want them to read between the lines and try to figure out what is happening and who the bad guy is.

And those books are great.

They aren't every book, however.

There are some books, where there is no need to shroud everything in mystery.

If you're writing for children. If the mystery of the story is just a subplot. If your protagonist is the evildoer…

Sometimes, it's okay to give your readers more obvious hints about what is happening or just come right out and reveal motivation and intent.

Not everything needs to be a mystery. Find out which parts of your story need to be hidden, if any, and which should be revealed to keep your readers interested.
