Obstacles happen

Life can throw us setbacks.

We get sick. We're stuck in traffic. There's a power outage and our alarm doesn't go off, making us late for the rest of the day…

There are plenty of things that can happen to slow us down and add obstacles to our otherwise successful lives.

Obstacles should happen to your characters as well. No matter how well organized they might be or how much help they have to control their lives, there will be surprises that throw their lives off track.

Don't be afraid to add some obstacles to your main character's life. In fact, add an obstacle whenever you're stuck to see if that might give you the next plot twist that will get you moving once again.

Obstacles are natural. Let them happen naturally in your story.
