Commas seem like such a simple, common punctuation mark. They can be really confusing, however. There are so many ways that you can get them wrong. (So many, in fact, that I hesitate to write this blog knowing I will no doubt get some wrong myself.)
There are many people who add way too many commas in their sentences. There are people who use too few. There are some people who add a comma every time they pause when reading a sentence, all while reading the sentence in what seems to be an imitation of Christopher Walken.
I have no comma secret.
The only thing I know is that commas are hard and that there always seems to be more to read about them.
When someone questions your comma, consider what they're saying. When it comes to the comma, they just might be right.
