Pretty it up later

When you spend a lot of time on a piece of writing, you want it to look perfect.

You want it to be easy to read. If there are images or graphs, you want them to pop. You want chapters to be about as even in length. You want the spacing to make sense.

You want your story to be pretty.

Don't let that bog you down, however. If you focus on the aesthetic while you're writing, you'll never get to the next word. You'll get stuck in the weeds and writing will be delayed and delayed and delayed.

Your final piece does have to look good to be easy to read. But that's for later. Finish the writing first and pretty it up later.
