Tie up your loose ends

Some stories are complex. They include many characters, plot lines, locations, and actions. They include many everything and force your readers to stay focused if they want to follow along.

If you're writing a complex story, good for you. Enjoy. Make all those parts flow and rise and fall and intrigue.

Make all those parts end as well. Unless you have a specific reason to leave some part of your story hanging in the end, close up those loops.

Let readers know what happened to those missing people. Have all mysteries be solved. Explain how all the evidence related to the clue. Describe how secondary characters reached their goals or recovered from not doing so.

If you've taken the time to include something in your story, take the time to make it pay off. Your readers with thank you when they don't have to stay up all night wondering what might have happened next.
