Wanted Needs

Every character wants something. They are looking for something. They are striving for something, which is what makes characters interesting.

Most characters need something as well, and it's often something different than what they want. Most characters, like humans, need something that isn't their priority or what they are most interested in chasing after.

Make sure that your characters have both wants and needs that fit their situation. Use the two to create tension and obstacles as your story moves forward. And, up to you if your character eventually attains one or both their needs and wants.
