If you've only seen part of this advice, please be assured: there is more than one way to start a scene.

Start with action. Start with describing the world you've created. Start with a question that readers will want to read on to see what would happen. Start with a strong emotion.

There are a lot of ways to start your story or scene. Don't feel like there is only one solution.

Really, the most important is to not start your story with "It was a dark and storm night."
