You know what happens when a theatrical product starts? Something.
There's always something that happens.
Someone runs into the room. Someone knocks on the door. Someone is rushing to hide something.
Something happens.
Most novels could benefit from the same.
Exposition is great, but for most novels, if you want to keep your readers interested, you need to start with some kind of inciting incident. Or at least some action that will have the reader curious about what is happening and what will happen next.
Most movies and plays start with some kind of action. Try it out on your writing to see if it helps improve your story.
