Suspense is important in many stories. It keeps your readers wondering and reading. Suspense can also lead to a very satisfying "ah ha" moment when all the pieces finally fall together or an "ahh" when the anxiety of an impending event is finally satisfied.
There can be too much suspense, however.
If you keep delaying meetings with silly excuses, that's annoying.
If you keep almost revealing a murderer, only to have them suddenly disappear from a sure trap, that's not realistic.
If you keep delaying urgent decisions that would clearly bring upon the end of a terrifying situation, that's illogical.
Suspense is important, but never paying off the beginning of suspense that you create will break any spell you might be weaving over your readers. Be sure to spread your suspense efficiently and to pay it off at the write moment.
